What I Love Most About Fall

If Lady Sei Shonagon can make lists a feature of her Pillow Book, then I can do the same with my blog. And since Autumn will be upon us soon, but not so soon that I can’t enjoy the expectation, I have decided to make a list of what I’m most looking forward to. I’ll add more as I think of stuff.

A fox at the local zoo, who was kind enough to hold still so I could take this.

In no particular order:

  • Cooler temperatures
  • Turning leaves
  • Spice-scented candles (Rejuvenation here is my favorite.)
  • Baking with carrots, apples, and pumpkin
  • Squash and spinach risotto my kids hate
  • Squash, bean, and chestnut casserole my kids hate
  • White bean and roasted garlic soup my kids tolerate
  • Halloween and Thanksgiving, my favorite holidays
(Plus that nytimes T-day cooking video I watch every year)
  • Drinking tea every day
  • Wearing sweaters and yoga pants every day
  • The crispness of mornings
  • Bat-themed stuff coming out and then being discounted
  • Kids back in school
  • Sending postcards and cards for Halloween, planning for Christmas
  • Advent (any excuse to buy candles)
  • Reading spooky books and stories, and maybe watching a movie or two
